Complete List of the Best Bathroom Color Schemes

posted on 04/22/2020

No matter what type of home you own, updating the interior walls and trim in your bathroom can make a dramatic difference. After all, personalization has a psychological effect on our brains that makes us more invested in what we own (especially houses).

Bathroom color schemes, in particular, are one of the most common ways people can personalize their living space. But, not everyone knows what color combinations to incorporate.

Not sure where to start? Don’t worry, we’ve got you covered.

Let’s take a look at everything you need to know when it comes to painting your bathroom.

Why Does Color Matter For Bathrooms?

Even if you live alone or in a larger home, bathrooms are often a place of privacy and quietness.

This is especially true while bathing, as it’s often notably relaxing to take a shower or bath after a long day of work.

So, the color scheme of your bathroom should reflect the level of comfort you’ll find here.

It’s also a great way to impress your houseguests.

Here are a few of the most notable.

Black + White

It’s hard to go wrong when incorporating black as your color scheme’s base. This is especially true when paired with brighter whites due to the visual contrast it establishes.

Adding black to your walls, picture frames or other decorating elements is a great way to splash the color throughout the bathroom.

For added effect, gold accents can take this bathroom’s design to the next level.

Golden faucets/handles and light fixtures will create a refined, almost regal atmosphere.

Keep in mind, though, that added too much black could appear a bit dramatic.

As with everything else in life, you’ll want to find a balance with the colors.

All White

In contrast, we have using solely white as your bathroom’s color scheme. Not only will it establish a crisp, clean appearance, but it will also make the room look and feel a bit bigger than it is.

When determining what shade of white to go with, choose one that complements the bathroom’s tile, bath furnishings, etc.

For example, you wouldn’t want to choose a muted, pastel white to accompany tile of a similar color, as it would make your room feel too ‘boxy’ or claustrophobic design-wise.

Afterward, simple accents (such as white flowers) can go a long way in boosting the room’s aesthetic.

Mint Green + White

Green may seem like a strange color for a bathroom, but it can look amazing if pulled off correctly.

A soft, mint-colored green will help establish an atmosphere that feels organic and natural.

For those who like to take their time while getting ready in the bathroom, you may find that this becomes one of your favorite areas in your home.

Light Gray

A light gray color scheme creates a very sophisticated, contemporary look for your bathroom.

It’s also an ideal option for bathrooms with marble flooring, although tile can work just as well provided that its color complements gray.

If you’d like to incorporate this color into your bathroom but don’t want subpar flooring to take away from the aesthetic, adding a large rug or bathmat is an easy fix that can keep the room looking great.

If you decide to go this route, a deep red or blue bathroom rug is solid options when it comes to choosing the color of the fabric.

Deep Blue

Speaking of deep blue, this color in itself is one of the most tranquil that you could choose for your bathroom’s color scheme. When paired with white, it also creates a classic combination that exudes both serenity and refinement.

For extra effect, adding a high-gloss finish to the blue segments of your bathroom can serve to better establish this atmosphere.

If you’re having trouble coming up with accent colors, a quick review of color theory should help get you on track.

Vanilla White

Not all white has to be a crisp, piercing hue. There’s something to be said about more subtle tones, and vanilla white is often a perfect choice for those who are looking for something a little tamer and less modern-looking.

False wood floors pair perfectly with the warm tones of vanilla white, turning your bathroom environment into something more of a spa. Metallic accents also go well with this color scheme.

Yellow + Gray + Black + White

I know what you might be thinking yellow might be a little much.

And it can be unless you pair it well with other colors and use yellow subtly.

For those who prefer a sunny, bright atmosphere for their bathroom, yellow is likely the choice for you.

A marigold shade will give off a vibe of energy and activity, both of which are great for those groggy mornings where getting out of bed is a challenge. You can also create a vibrant, classic look by pairing this yellow with white, gray and black.

For even more energy, a subtle yellow rug or two will complete the aesthetic.

Pink + White

This color is a great way to add warmth to a bathroom without it being as ambitious as brighter yellows.

Although typically thought of as a ‘girly’ color, pink will be right at home in a bathroom of any type.

It should be paired with black or white, with black flooring having notable contrast. If too much pink is a concern, you could paint only segments of your wall pink and paint the other parts a neutral tone.

Choosing The Right Bathroom Color Schemes Can Seem Difficult

But it doesn’t have to be.

With the above information about bathroom color schemes in mind, you’ll be well on your way toward making this area of your home as beautiful as possible.
